Greenbush Brewery Worth the Wait

Greenbush Brewery opened its doors last weekend in Sawyer, Michigan. In April, I told you to keep an eye on this place. Now it’s time to put your butt on a barstool. The beer is flowing and it’s good–damn good. My recommendation: the darker the better. In a recent email conversation with the devil, the lord of darkness confirmed a deal he made with owner and brewmaster Scott Sullivan to use roasted malts to play dark magic with your tastebuds. The result: Distorter, a porter more robust than your favorite stout, and Anger, a black IPA that will spark rage upon the sight of the bottom of an empty pint glass. Magical indeed. I took home a growler of each last weekend.

If Michigan is not in your travel plans, you have two options:

1) Wise up and make a weekend of it. Here are enough craft beer stops to keep you busy.

2) Watch for Greenbush to hit taps in Chicago in the next few weeks. Windy City Distribution has taken them on, which means they’ll show up in the best beer bars and restaurants in the city.

The tasting flights at Greenbush offer generous 6 oz. pours. 7 samples for $12.
